How do I split a long contract into instalments?
Monthly and yearly contracts are rarely paid in one go. An instalment schedule turns the contract value into payments with clear due dates you can chase on time.
Steps
- Open the contract and press Instalments — Figure 1.
- Choose the frequency: monthly, bi-weekly, weekly, or a single upfront payment.
- Press Generate schedule. The contract total is spread into instalments, each with a period, a due date and an amount due.
- Adjust any instalment by hand if you agreed a different split with the customer.
- As you record each payment the amount paid updates and the status turns to paid or partially paid.
Notes
- Regenerating the schedule replaces only the unpaid instalments; paid and partially paid ones are preserved.
- The schedule does not collect money for you; payments are still recorded from the financial tab as usual.
- A late instalment shows as overdue, which is a far better early warning than discovering the arrears at the end of the contract.
- For short contracts of a day or two a schedule is pointless; just record the payment.
