Poultry farms: how do I record eggs, weighings and mortality?

Three numbers written every day, and they tell you how the flock is doing before the problem grows.

Eggs

1. Open Poultry Farms → Eggs — Figure 1 — and record the collection daily.
2. Choose the flock and enter the sound and broken counts; the production rate is calculated.

Weighings

1. Open Weighing — Figure 2 — and weigh a sample from the flock weekly.
2. Enter the flock age and the average weight, and compare it with the breed’s expected standard.

Mortality

1. Open Mortality — Figure 3 — and record the daily deaths with the cause.
2. The count is deducted from the flock and the cumulative mortality rate is updated.
3. On sale, record live bird sales so the count is reduced and the revenue posted.

Notes

• Always write the cause of death; mortality from disease is not mortality from heat or crowding, and the remedy differs.
• A sudden spike in mortality on a single day warrants a call to the vet the same day.
• Weigh a sample of the same size every time; changing the sample size makes the comparison meaningless.
