Livestock: how do I record feeding, health and breeding?

Three screens you write in every day, and they are how you learn why your cost went up or your production went down.

Feeding

1. Open Livestock → Feed — Figure 1 — and record each feeding with its date.
2. Choose the shed, the feed type and the quantity, and the average per head is computed.

Health

1. Open Health — Figure 2 — and record vaccinations, treatments and examinations.
2. Tie the record to the animal’s ear tag, and enter the medicine, the dose and the withdrawal period where there is one.

Breeding

1. Open Breeding — Figure 3 — and record the service with its date.
2. Set the dam, the sire and the method, and the expected calving date is calculated.
3. At birth, record the outcome and add the newborn to the animals list.

Notes

• The withdrawal period after medication is a food-safety matter, not an administrative detail; do not sell milk during it.
• Feed is the largest livestock cost, and recording it daily is what makes a cost-per-litre calculation possible.
• Record the service date precisely; a week’s error means being unprepared for the birth.
