Poultry farms: how do I open a flock and record its feed?

In poultry the unit is the flock, not the bird: a flock goes in and comes out together and has its own accounting.

Breeds

From Poultry Farms → BreedsFigure 1 — register your breeds (broiler, layer, local…) with the expected weight and production rates.

Flocks

  1. Open FlocksFigure 2 — and add a new flock.
  2. Choose the farm, the house and the breed, and enter the placement date, the initial count and the chick cost.
  3. The flock page shows the current count, the mortality rate and the flock age in days.

Feed

  1. Open FeedFigure 3 — and record the daily quantity per flock.
  2. Choose the feed type (starter, grower, finisher) and the quantity in kilograms.
  3. The feed conversion ratio is computed from total feed against weight produced.

Notes

  • Never mix two flocks in one house; you lose the ability to compute a conversion ratio for either.
  • The feed conversion ratio is the number that judges a flock, so watch it weekly rather than at the end of the cycle.
  • The initial count and the chick cost are the basis of the cycle’s profit calculation, so get them exactly right.
