How do I record a veterinary visit and set up the alert rules?

A farm is run by monitoring, not by reacting; these two screens are how you do it.

Veterinary visits

  1. Open Farm Management → Veterinary VisitsFigure 1 — and add a visit — Figure 2.
  2. Choose the farm, the veterinarian and the date.
  3. Write the reason, the diagnosis, the recommended treatment and the visit cost.
  4. Save, and the cost is posted against the farm and appears in its profitability report.

Alert rules

  1. Open Alert RulesFigure 3.
  2. Each rule has a threshold that warns you when it is crossed: high mortality rate, low production, overdue vaccination and so on.
  3. Adjust the threshold to suit your farm, and enable only what you will actually act on.

Notes

  • Write the diagnosis properly even if it takes longer; it is what you come back to if the same case recurs a season later.
  • A loose threshold turns alerts into noise people ignore; a strict one makes them useless.
  • Veterinary cost is part of the cost of production, so do not leave it outside the system.
