How do I record a veterinary visit and set up the alert rules?
A farm is run by monitoring, not by reacting; these two screens are how you do it.
Veterinary visits
- Open Farm Management → Veterinary Visits — Figure 1 — and add a visit — Figure 2.
- Choose the farm, the veterinarian and the date.
- Write the reason, the diagnosis, the recommended treatment and the visit cost.
- Save, and the cost is posted against the farm and appears in its profitability report.
Alert rules
- Open Alert Rules — Figure 3.
- Each rule has a threshold that warns you when it is crossed: high mortality rate, low production, overdue vaccination and so on.
- Adjust the threshold to suit your farm, and enable only what you will actually act on.
Notes
- Write the diagnosis properly even if it takes longer; it is what you come back to if the same case recurs a season later.
- A loose threshold turns alerts into noise people ignore; a strict one makes them useless.
- Veterinary cost is part of the cost of production, so do not leave it outside the system.
