Makes and models: the foundation every vehicle rests on

Make and model are not typed as free text when you record a vehicle; they are picked from a list you prepare in advance. The restriction is deliberate: left free, "Toyota", "toyota" and "Toyto" would appear as three different makes, and every report that measures profit by make would fall apart.

How the list is organised

A make is the manufacturer (Toyota, Nissan, Lexus) and a model belongs to it (Camry, Patrol, ES). Choosing a make on any screen filters the model list automatically to that make's models only — on the panel and in the public showroom's filter as well.

Arabic and English names

Every make and model carries two names. The Arabic one shows to a user working in Arabic, the English one in English — and the English name is what builds the vehicle's page address on the showroom site: "Toyota", "Camry" and 2023 produce toyota-camry-2023. Write the English name carefully, because it is what search engines read.

Deactivate rather than delete

A make you no longer deal in should be deactivated, not deleted. Deleting severs older vehicles from their make's name and corrupts their historical reports; deactivating hides it from new pick lists while keeping the record intact.
